Neck
Name: Rhonda Wise
Favorite Activity/Sport: lots, riding bike, play golf, working out in the gym, swimming
Injury: popped my lower back in the gym doing squats and a pinch nerve in my neck from painting a whole house (inside).
What you like about AST and how we helped: It took me a long time to find them. I went through everything to correct my lower back from MRI’s, to physical therapy, to acupuncture, to massage, to chiropractor. Within 7 visits to AST, 99% of my issue/pain was gone.
The myfacial works for me. I then got a pinched nerve, which I’m told can take time to fix, was great within 7-8 visits and also using the table on me.
I thoroughly would recommend them. Save you time and money, take it from me!
Name: Julie Ortiz
Favorite Activity/Sport: Yes! (Running, walking, trampoline, kayaking, rollerblading)
Injury: No cartilage in knee since 1985, and cervical fusion in 1996. Major stiffness, pain and lack of mobility due to both surgeries.
What you like about AST and how we helped: I love AST’s extensive knowledge about sports injuries, their roots causes and how to alleviate them. AST initially helped resolve my pain, and then they helped me become more active than I have been able to be in years!

Favorite Activity/Sport: Biking, yoga, ultimate frisbee
Injury: degenerative disc in low back and my muscles love to compensate for that by tying themselves up in knots
How AST has helped: AST is the only thing I have found that has offered actual relief from the low back pain. When I get my body aligned right and get the muscles to do what they are supposed to be doing, it’s a little slice of heaven. AST has been great at that and the longer I have availed myself of the treatment, the better I feel. Regular maintenance has been a key to keeping me doing what I like to do and doing it freely

Injury: Bulging Discs-Lower Back
What you like about AST and how we helped: After suffering and training through small injuries I ended up with two bulging discs in my lower back – making life and any activities very painful. I tried standard physical therapy with very little results, a friend recommended AST to me because of what they had done for her. The improvement was felt after the first visit and shortly after a couple more sessions I was back to pounding the pavement and training for races. Now I recommend AST to the young athletes that I coach because I trust what they do because of my results I have seen and more importantly felt. One of the biggest perks of AST is that not only are they incredibly friendly but the flexibility for appointments are great for those of us with super busy schedules!
Hip
Name: Jeff Burrus
Favorite Activity/Sports: Runner
Injury: Right hip
What you like about AST and how we helped: Very convenient upstairs at RunTex, three visits, good as new…maybe better! I felt progressively better with each visit and hated that I wasted several weeks thinking it would get better on its own. Thanks Austin Sports Therapy!!

Injury: hip labral tear
What you like about AST and how we helped: AST has been very considerate of my need to exercise and stay active. I didn’t want to have surgery, and because of AST, I have been able to treat my injury conservatively, without surgery and without sacrificing my active lifestyle. My doctor has educated me and my personal trainer on the nature of my injury and how to avoid re-injury.

Name: Renee Allen
Favorite Activity/Sport: Running
Injury: Chronic tightness in hips, lower back, and hamstrings
What you like about AST and how we helped: I have been a runner for 18 years now, so it is a major part of my life. I took on marathoning 6 years ago and didn’t do the proper cross training and stretching that is crucial. It eventually caught up with me and I couldn’t even go out on a short easy run without pain and discomfort. I thought my running days were over, especially at a competitive level. One Saturday morning on the Lady Bird Lake Trail, a running buddy of mine introduced me to one of the doctors from Austin Sports Therapy. He was able to tell me what was wrong as he watched me run. After my first treatment with him, I felt immediate results! I was able to run fluidly, and it improved with each session. The strength training and stretches he showed me have helped me maintain my progress. I was able to run a PR in the marathon, and I thought I would never get to even run one again, much less in a fast time. I tried various other therapies before discovering AST and had no luck. I recommend AST to all of my running friends. Thank you, AST, for giving me the gift of running again!
Knee
Name: Dan Calder
Favorite Activity/Sport: Running
Injury: At different times I’ve injured my left and right IT Band. I’ve had issues with my right quad hurting and both of my calves. I’ve also had Patellar Tendinitis in my right knee.
What you like about AST and how we helped: Last year I decided I wanted to start running, and set my sights on a half (maybe even a full!) marathon. When I began, I could successfully finish only one mile–I knew I had a long road ahead of me. My training progressed and I eventually made it up to 10 miles. Unfortunately, at that point I kept getting injured, and my knees in particular seemed to get worse with every run. I was frustrated and didn’t know what to do to fix it. I called my cousin, who was a long time runner, for advice. He immediately told me I should make an appointment with Austin Sports Therapy; I could not be happier with my experience there. Professional, yet approachable, my doctor at AST would listen to my symptoms, diagnose the problem, and explain what needed to be done. I always felt comfortable asking questions and I left each appointment feeling like my injury had been properly taken care of. What sets them apart is their level of dedication and customer service. I was able to e-mail my doctor directly with questions, and he would take the time to check in with me about how I was recovering. He taught me specific stretches to strengthen the muscles I had injured, as well as supporting muscles, in order to minimize future injuries and keep me running strong. Within the last 10 months I ran 3 half marathons. Today I hit the 18 mile mark of my training and I’m on target to run my first marathon in about a month. I can honestly say I would not have been able to make it to this point without Austin Sports Therapy. I highly recommend them!!
Name: Jon Medina
Favorite Activity/Sports: Running (Marathon – 5K)
Injury: IT Band induced knee pain
What you like about AST and how we helped: Having just completed my first full marathon I was feeling really great emotionally, my knee however was another story. I had what I thought was typical knee pain from putting my body through its paces leading up to the race. I started to notice it around mile 15 every time I hit the distances. With a little rest the symptoms would subside, only to flare up again. I met up with a running coach of mine a couple days after the race and she suggested I go and see AST in order to aid in recovery and get back on the road.
AST was able to get to the cause of my pain from the onset of our appointment. In addition to working on the symptoms that I was having, they noticed that my other knee was a little off even though there was no pain involved. I had broken the patella on that knee about a year earlier. I was amazed that they noticed that and their suggestion to keep a eye on it turned the focus from recovery to prevention. From the treatments, after care and stretching suggestions I left feeling empowered and more educated.
Had I known what I would learn from Austin Sports Therapy I would have been here much sooner. I am feeling better and faster than ever.
Name: Tiffany Young
Favorite Activity/Sport: Running, Tri’s, Snow skiing
Injury: Reoccurring shin splints/stress fractures, knee pain from ACL repair, Achilles issues and plantar fasciitis
What you like about AST and how we helped: I’ve been to numerous doctors, traditional rehab centers and various other treatments but this is the first one that has actually found the root of my problems. Not only were they able to help me recover, but I was also allowed to continue training during this process. For the first time in 7 years, I’m completing a run season without sitting on the bench due to injury. Plus, I am running faster and more efficient then ever before. Austin Sports Therapy has helped me regain the zeal and physical strength needed for the active lifestyle I enjoy living. I HIGHLY recommend them to others.

Injury: Left Knee
What you like about AST and how we helped: After injuring my left knee whether it be just falling on it, a torn Mencius, plica tissue – this all lead to atrophy in my left leg. My knee would hurt running, squatting, etc. I never thought it would ever feel the same as my “good knee” but after going to AST, the results were really and truly amazing. Immediately after the doctor worked on me, I would squat and my left knee would feel better than my good (right) knee. These results followed me to my intense workouts/training -and again, I was so surprised how great my left knee felt. This made me more conscious of how I had always over-compensated (with anything I do) towards my right leg due to the pain in my left knee. Thank you for giving me hope and understanding that I don’t have to live a life with knee pain.
Ankle & Foot
Name: Katie Jan
Favorite Activity/Sport: Running
Injury: Achilles/Lower leg
What you like about AST and how we helped: During marathon training, I suffered an Achilles/lower leg injury. After seeing an orthopedic surgeon and few physical therapists I started to lose hope that I would be able to continue my training. Luckily I was referred to AST by a friend! With aggressive therapy and extensive knowledge of sports injuries, AST was instrumental in getting me back on my feet as well as counseling me through my ailment when I was discouraged. I can’t thank you enough!
Name: Jake Saenz
Owner Atomic Athlete – Certified Military Athlete Strength and Conditioning Coach
Favorite Activity/Sports: Training – Adventuring in general
Injury: Achilles tendon – IT band issues – Tendonitis of the elbow
What you like about AST and how we helped: Honestly the no BS approach to getting fixed quickly. While spending a winter in Colorado skiing I developed multiple overuse issues. Each of these individual issues had lasted for months before returning to Austin and working with AST. Within a few weeks of therapy I was back in action and feeling better then I had in a very long time. As a strength and conditioning coach it’s part of my job to train, and train hard. The doctors have worked wonders on myself, fellow coaches, and my athletes. Soon as something flares up from either overuse or poor movement I make an appointment because I have had a proven track record with these guys. Your body is one thing that you can’t replace so I suggest seeing these guys and start taking care of it. They are up front, honest, and effective.

Shoulder
Elbow & Wrist
Name: Caroline Pledger
Favorite Activity/Sports: Cycling, hiking and working out.
Injury: I noticed a specific tense pain and soreness in my elbow, forearm and wrist due to repetitive computer work and an old injury from my hockey days.
What you like about AST and how we helped: Last year I decided to take part in one of the boot camp workout sessions that are so popular right now in Austin. I noticed that several areas in my right wrist, arm and shoulder seemed to be overcompensating for an old injury, or a weaker side of my body, or from years of poor posture meeting deadlines at my computer. I was concerned that I might have to sit out on workout sessions after just starting to really get into it – the pain became so intense that I couldn’t even do one pushup, much less 40 of them! My trainer recommended going to Austin Sports Therapy, and after only few focused sessions, the doctors were able to really work through my pain points using Active Release Technique. Not only did I notice results and healing right away… it’s stayed away and I’m now much more aware of how I’m stretching, sitting and moving due to their attention. I highly recommend Austin Sports Therapy and would send a friend there in a minute.

Favorite Activity/Sports: Pilates/Yoga
Injury: Hip Flexor & Tennis Elbow
What you like about AST and how we helped: When I went to AST it was painful to walk due to the hip flexor injury. After one treatment, I could walk with no pain. Granted it took more treatments before I considered myself fixed, but making the pain that I had been dealing with for weeks go away was HUGE! Then I got tennis elbow and once again with treatment and preventative exercises, the doctors fixed me up.
What I love about the folks at AST is that there is no pressure to buy an expensive package of treatments you may or may not need. They will also provide you with exercises to help you speed up the healing process and prevent re-injury. (Note: It helps if you actually do them!)
