Athlete Spotlight – Jeremy Powers
Those who braved the cold and wet conditions last Monday were treated to some National Championship racing right in the heart of Austin, Texas. Not without controversy or delay, a muddy Zilker Park provided the setting for the U.S. Cyclocross Nationals which featured a strong and professional field. Jeremy, a favorite coming into the race, was fresh off a tour in Europe which required intense racing and travel.
With little to no time to recover before the US Nationals, Jeremy found himself dealing with an injury that threatened to derail his run towards a top ten finish in the world cup standings. AST was called upon to make quick work of some pesky knee pain.
“I’ve been going to PT every day here. I’ve been pain-free these last two days, a little soreness after a couple hours of riding, but I’m really happy about where I’m at,” he said. “I thought the season was over, honestly. As serious as that is, I thought, This could be it.”
The end result was a dominant performance and gold medal at the U.S. Nationals. Next up, a trip back to Europe for two more races, including the World Championships on February 1st.
